The Merseyside Railway Network
Merseyside has a vast network of railways. These are operated by Arriva Trains Wales, Central Trains, Merseyrail, Northern, Transpennine Express, Virgin Trains and Silverlink. The lines mentioned are Liverpool-Wigan, Liverpool-Warrington Central, Liverpool-Manchester, Liverpool-Kirkby-Hunts Cross, Liverpool-Ormskirk-Preston, Liverpool-West Kirby/New Brighton, Liverpool-Chester/Ellesmere Port, Liverpool-Runcorn, Southport-Wigan and Bidston-Shotton. A lot of these lines run through suburban areas. Some however run through some fantastic countryside. These areas are mainly south of Hooton and between Hall Road-Southport. Other lines include Wallasey Grove Road-New Brighton, Heswall-Neston, plus many more which are yet to be discovered!
There have been some major changes to the City Line Network and now most services use 156's and 150's as opposed to 142's. Class 156483/86/88/89/91/97 are the units which have been transferred for use on these services although in general they can be operated by any Northern 156.
